Investment Trends for the IO 2.0 Wave

Jonathan Fassberg comes to Oppenheimer with 30 years of relevant experience, having worked at DuPont Pharmaceuticals as well as several boutique investment banks as an equity research analyst early in his career.

Asthika Goonewardene is a Managing Director at Truist Securities covering biotechnology companies with a focus on cell therapy, immuno-oncology, and antibody technology. Prior to joining the STRH Biotech team in 2019, Mr Goonewardene was a senior analyst with Bloomberg Intelligence, leading coverage of the global biotech sector. Before joining Bloomberg in 2011, Mr Goonewardene worked as a senior management consultant at Datamonitor.  He started his career as an analyst at OSI Pharmaceuticals in 2005, and first joined the sell-side in 2007, with the biotech team at Piper Jaffray in London. Mr Goonewardene holds a BS in Biotechnology and an MBA in Technology Management from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Irina Margine, PhD is a private equity principal on the Wellington Private Equity Team, where she focuses on private company investing in the area of Biotechnology. Prior to joining Wellington Management in 2019, Dr Margine was on the Equity Research Team at Cowen and Co., covering small and mid-cap biotechnology companies. Previously, she worked in risk management within JPMorgan’s wholesale lending businesses.Dr Margine earned her PhD in microbiology from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and her master of science in biomolecular sciences from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

Graig C. Suvannavejh, PhD recently joined Mizuho Securities as a Managing Director and Senior Biopharmaceuticals and Biotechnology Equity Research Analyst, bringing over 20 years of experience in the healthcare sector, including equity research and investment banking roles at both bulge bracket and healthcare-dedicated boutique investment banks. He joined Mizuho from Goldman Sachs where he successfully built out and led the firm’s European biotechnology equity research franchise while initially based in London, and then, following a move to NY, was a key player in establishing the firm’s US Small-mid cap Biopharma efforts. In financial services, he has also worked at JP Morgan, Jefferies, and UBS, as well as other boutique firms. Dr. Suvannavejh also brings with him corporate experience, with operating roles in business development, corporate strategy and finance at top-tier and also start-up global biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, including most notably, Biogen and AbbVie. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Northwestern University, a Master’s degree in Physiology and an undergraduate degree in Biology, with both latter degrees earned from Georgetown University. In addition, he, like our esteemed moderator of today’s panel, is an avid runner and endurance athlete.
